Still Working on New Website

I'm still working on my new website. I have about 6 pages built, but I won't be announcing the new site formally until I have about 20 pages available.

The new site will be easier to read and more search engine friendly.

So for now I'll stick with refering people to my current Dog Training Reviews site and the premier pages of Dog Toilet Training Book Reviews and Dog Obedience Training Book Reviews.

I'll keep posting here till the new site is fully functional.

Google Page Rank Problems

Looks like I have a problem with my Google Page Rank (PR).

Last week I see that many of my Google Ads that I place to drive traffic to my website were put on hold until I bumped up my "page quality." I had very good CTR with the ads and good conversion rates for products sold, which would indicate that the visitors found the information useful. However, the ads got dropped anyway.

Google says that in order to run those ads directing some traffic to some of my pages I will need to up the max bid for the keyword to between $1 and $10 per click. Yeah, right! I was paying between 10 cents and 25 cents before.

Ok, some of my pages did not get affected by this, like the

Charlie Lafave page,www.dog-training-reviews.info/Dog-Secrets.htm , and the
Dog Training Reviews page, www.Dog-Training-Reviews.info/Obedience-Training.htm , and
Rating Scale page, http://www.dog-training-reviews.info/Toilet-Training-Book-Rating-Scale.htm ,

so I guess I need to upgrade the quality of my current site. Meanwhile, I am still working on my new website. I am sure that it will not have this problem.

Anyone else having this problem also?

New Website Soon

In the very near future, I will be opening my new website. It should be much better than my current one. Its concept will be the same - reviews and comments on dog training products, but it will be more professional and more complete.

I plan to have my reviews accompanied by actual user reviews also. This will match up book reviews with actual practice. Also other dog training products will be covered as well.

But until then, use the current site for dog toilet training book reviews and dog obedience training book reviews and dog training collars.

New Pet Dog for The Kids?

Did you just get a dog for the kids?

A good dog training system for the "child instructor" is the Puppy and Dog Trainer Online system by Dove Cresswell.

This system works like a PowerPoint presentation. Your child can sit in front of the computer screen and get a professional presentation on dog training. And then watch it over and over again and again, as they go through each training lesson. Your child will find learing the training methods to be both interesting and entertaining. Much better than reading a book - which probably isn't going to happen anyway!

Crate and Potty Training - Like Hand and Glove

I did not understand this when I first started reading all the dog potty training books, but crate training is obviously an integral part to successful (and faster) dog potty training. It is a key part of the rating scale on my website.

The best eBook to cover this topic is Puppy Housetraining: The Ultimate Guide by Nathalie Lafluer. Click the link to go to my review of this book.

She even has a separate eBook just on the crate training issue. That book can be purchased separaetly or with her puppy training kit of eBooks and information. The kit is available as an option on her website.

So get a crate for you puppy and get the potty training over with faster.

Reviews - Good and Bad

There are so many dog potty training books being offered out there that it is hard to sort out which one to try.

Everyone claims to be the best, so I read the the biggest name ones and compared them. After reading the collection, I could clearly see what content should be included in a good book and how easy it is to understand. With that knowledge, I made up a scale to rate the books based on their content and the quality of their content.

That scale is on the Toilet Training Rating Scale page of my website. The reviews even include some books on overall dog training with just sections of the book covering the potty training issue. In those cases, I rated only the potty training part of the book.

Any rating scale doesn't give you all the information that you need, so a more complete written review is also given on the Potty Training Book Review page.

"Ultimate Guide" uses Review from DTR.info

It is clear from my website that I prefer "Puppy Housetraining: The Ultimate Guide" for potty training instruction for your dog.

Recently, the author asked for my permission to post my positive review of her book. See that posting on the Ultimate Guide website. I try to be fair on all my reviews, so I have no problem with an author using it.

Adult Dog Training

It seems that most of the dog training books available on the market are focused on training puppies. This is to be expected, since most dog owners are interested in training their dogs when they first get them as a puppy. But what about all the others that have adult dogs?

Well one of the e-Books offered does a pretty good job of offering information on training your adult dog also. That book is "Dog Training Secrets" by Charlie Lafave. I do a review of this book on my website. You can read it on my Dog Obedience Training Book Review page and I have an expanded review page also. If you have adult dog, this may be the best route for you.

Training Older Dogs

Sometimes you will find yourself in a situation where you have a training issues with an older dog. Most of the dog training books on the market assume that you are starting with a new puppy. So these books don't address some of the issues that you have with an older dog. I have found that Charlie Lafave's book addresses the older dog issue a little better than the other popular dog training books.

Martingale Collars vs. Greyhound Collars

What is the difference between a Martingale dog collar and a Greyhound dog collar?

Nothing! They are the same thing! This is why buying a collar confuses new dog owners. I put together a listing of the most common dog collars that are on the market to help new dog owners understand a little bit about dog collars. The information can be found on my Dog Collars page on my website.

A Martingale collar is really a better designed choke collar (or is that a slip collar? :) ) (Those are the same thing too!)

How to Potty Train You Puppy in 7 Days Gets an Update

I recently learned that the popular puppy potty training book "How to Potty Train Your Puppy in 7 Days" has been updated. I have a review of this book on my reviews website, but I don't think that his book is all that good. See my review on this book at this link and a comparison of it to other similar books at this link.

I contacted the author to get the update since I bought the earlier version. I told him that I do reviews of these type of books; that I had bought his; and that I would please like to get the updated version. He was cordial about getting me the update, but he was surprised that my review of his book was not so positive.

I have not had the chance to read the update and revise my review, but I'll get to that soon. When I do, I'll post a link to it here.

Choke collars are one of the most often sold dog collar and they get a lot of bad press. The concern is legitimate, because they can cause harm to your dog when they are not used properly.

Kids Training Dogs Training Kids

It is rather often that pet dogs are bought for children in the house. Often the pet dog is considered to be the child's pet. When this is the case, you have a dual learning opportunity right in front of you.

Let the child do the dog training! This will put the child in more of an "ownership" position with the pet and it can help build the bond between the child and the dog.

So the dog learns the training that she needs, and the dog training experience teaches the child some of the responsibility of dog ownership.

That is a WIN-WIN situation.

Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer

The dog training eBook "Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer" by Adam Katz is a book that is chock full of information, but sometimes it can be difficult to find the issue within the book that you want read up on.

I have tried to help with this little problem with this book by creating a separate Table of Contents that organizes the book by similar topics. Dog Den Instincts

The denning instinct is a strong dog instinct in dogs. Based on that, it can be used in potty training dogs. They want to have a den and they want to keep the den clean. Both of these instincts help with potty training dogs. Read more on the Den Instincts page.

Dog Potty Training and the Alpha Dog

A key part of dog training is understanding the Alpha Dog concept. It applies to both dog potty training and dog obedience training.

Dogs are pack animals and pack animals need a leader. The leader is commonly referred to as the Alpha. So dogs look for the Alpha in their pack or they look to be the Alpha.

As the dog owner, it is your job to make sure that your dog or dogs understand that you are the Alpha. This actually makes life simpler for both you and your dog. But being the Alpha means knowing what the responsibilities of the Alpha are. Dogs don't think like humans, so human logic does not work. You need to think like a dog!

Den Instincts and Dog Potty Training

Most people do not appreciate the value of taking advantage of a dog's den instincts when teaching a puppy potty training.

Dogs are born with an instinct to seek safety in a den and to keep the den clean. So this instinct to keep it clean can be used to get puppies to "hold it" (maybe only for a short time) and then show them were it it ok to go potty. With practice they learn to always hold it in the den, and go potty somewhere else.
